Despite my efforts to be a vigilant mom, sometimes I miss the boat. Father’s day was a ton of fun at a friend’s pool – the only way to beat the heat in 100+ degree Texas summer weather! Yes we took breaks and yes I used a high SPF and yes I reapplied. However, today I am nursing kiddo’s sunburns. Ouch! Luckily I have my tried & true USANA products (from my own over-indulgences on a Miami beach a couple years back): Proflavanol C-100 to decrease inflammation, and Night Renewal Creme on every inch of redness to boost moisture & healing. If only I’d begun with the Daytime Protective Emulsion! It’s only SPF 15 but I had it on me and I’m sunburn-free today. I hope these tips help you and your family too this summer. Of course, it’s best not to stay out too long in the 1st place! Happy swimming.

Sometimes the Universe just knocks you on your ass. Two weeks ago my otherwise well-protected body contracted whatever nasty virus was going around and called for a general TIME OUT. I didn't like it, but I listened. I slept. I lounged around the house in my PJ's. I drank tea, ate soup, upped my nutrients and called my acupuncturist for herbal reinforcements. Thankfully, it was over in a matter of days and my suffering was relatively minimal. But my body is taking her sweet time getting back up to full capacity, and I've ... Read More
How Do You Eat a Carrot?
I recently returned from a trip 'back home' in central Maine, sans kids and husband. It was a delightful cold & snowy retreat to the homes of my parents, sleeping nine hours a night, snowshoeing in the back woods, knitting, reading, and going through old family letters and mementos. 'Maine in January??' you ask. And yes, it was completely, utterly, wonderful. January for me feels like a quiet time, the space in-between the end of something old and the beginning of something new. I like to go quiet, inside, really listening for messages or clues about what's to come. Having time to ... Read More
Season’s Eating: Attack of the Holiday Goodies
The cookies are coming, the cookies are coming! Before we learned Grandmommy is coming for Christmas this year (she promises to do the baking), my son asked me with a woeful expression “Um, mom, are we going to have any cookies this Christmas?” And because I delight in torturing my children I said… “Why no! In fact, let’s make it a completely sugar-free holiday! Maybe we should do gluten-free. Heck, let’s go for vegan!” Poor kid, said he felt like crying… I guess he didn’t find it quite as a funny as I did (gotta make procrastination a ... Read More

Hang with me… six quick tips for sanity (maybe a deep breath, an aha moment) over the next coupla weeks…. 1. Find inspiration I don’t know what I would do without AstroAnne.com these days. I’m no astrologer but there’s no denying it’s been a whacky time these last few weeks. Ask anyone who’s married, has parents or children. Whacky! Astrology (done well) is mind-blowing and actually quite helpful. I’ll tap into monthly wisdom from the leader of ... Read More
