Love Letter of Gratitude on my 43rd Birthday

Posted by vibrantone on 4 August 2011 in Blog

I love my birthday! Yes it does get better & better every year. Here are just some of the expressions of gratitude I wish to share today.

  • Waking up before 5AM to sit in centering prayer (meditation) w/ my spirit co-pilot sweetie.
  • Out the door in time to walk around the pond, graced by the presence of dragonflies, taking in the golden light glinting off the tall grasses as the sun makes her ascent.
  • To my body, by now I have learned to honor and keep you. Thank you for looking back at me so glowingly all these years, sexy!
  • Today’s  perpetual calendar message from Dr. Christiane Northrup, reminding me to commit to living my dreams one day at a time. Hence, today’s affirmation: I am living my dreams!
  • My daughter’s bright and shining face as she emerges from her ‘tsunami princess’ style splash down in the water… laughing laughing laughing.
  • The amazing tribes I have immersed myself in, the incredible journey that started in their midst 6 years ago – thanks to inspired leadership by courageous people following their vision:  Renee Trudeau, Dr. Myron Wentz, Team Northrup, Regena Thomashauer, and more.
  • The city of Austin, Texas for being just the most perfect place to, replant myself, and learn how to nourish my life for lush and vibrant growth.  I am deeply grateful for every person here and the healing that you have nurtured over these eleven years.
  • My family of origin, my home soil, the State of Maine for continuing to inspire my love of beauty, nature and continual change –for welcoming me and my wonderful family home in advance of our actual arrival (10 months from now)!
  • Speaking of family… for loving me no matter what. You are my constant inspiration and I love love love what the four of us (and our furry friends) are creating together. You are each so uniquely amazing and BEAUTIFUL!
  • God/Goddess/Universe infinite Divine wellspring of love and inspiration, for unyielding persistence.

Too Much Fun in the Sun

Despite my efforts to be a vigilant mom, sometimes I miss the boat. Father's day was a ton of fun at a friend's pool - the only way to beat the heat in 100+ degree Texas summer weather! Yes we took breaks and yes I used a high SPF and yes I reapplied. However, today I am nursing kiddo's sunburns. Ouch! Luckily I have my tried & true USANA products (from my own over-indulgences on a Miami beach a couple years back): Proflavanol C-100 to decrease inflammation, and Night Renewal Creme on every inch of ... 'What's wrong with the world? What can we do about it?" These are the two questions posed in Tom Shadyac's documentary I AM. I brought my guys (husband and 13-year-old son) to see the film Easter weekend and the answers to this question have been rolling around my brain ever since, coming into conversations, popping up on Facebook, topic of discussion in our family about the way we want to live our lives. If you get my drift... I recommend seeing it! There's one thought in particular that I keep coming to. The documentary goes pretty far to not ... Read More

The High Cost of Default Parenting

As a mom, I sometimes catch myself repeating, drone-like, "How was your day? What did you learn? What did you get on that test?" And I notice that my kids, too, have learned to mimic my perfunctory tone and lack of conscious attention to these questions. I can do better. Doing better, though, sometimes means I mimic the tone and line of questioning I hear so frequently in our culture. It can sound like this: "You got a B? Well, how hard did you study? Have you finished your homework? Did you really put enough time into that project? It ... Read More

Just look at this happy couple! On the left is my beautiful sister-in-law Thalia, on the right is my 'little' brother Alex, together on their wedding day this past August. What a guy! He's tall, handsome, he's as smart as he looks and genuinely charismatic. He was such a little shit once. Eight years younger than me (he'll say seven), he had a pudgy little face and a wicked tenacity. He sometimes had (and still has) a facial expression that reads 'I hear you and I'm not going to contradict you but I'm going to do things my way.' (The short version of that is, 'F you'). Sure, I ... Read More
